Private Service is the overall job title
of the various professions performed in the private home.
Cooking, cleaning, serving, minding and otherwise doing
for someone else are duties that have been performed for
most of our history.
What is changing is the perception
of this type of employment in recent years. Gradually we
have moved from the servant
/ master relationship to a more professional service
relationship that still maintains respectful boundaries,
but is based more firmly on the concept of mutual respect.
In
the course of contributing to the monthly newsletter
of the International Guild of Professional Butlers, I
have had the opportunity to comment on a variety of topics
